La Canada Flintridge : Foothill Boulevard Renewal
The City Council has expressed support for a broad set of goals to revitalize business on Foothill Boulevard but stopped short of funding the plan after deciding it wasn’t clear who would administer the effort.
During a study session with the Business Support and Development Committee, council members on Monday approved the committee’s mission statement and goals for the 1992-93 fiscal year. The committee was appointed by the council in January to carry out the recommendations of the Foothill Boulevard Master Plan. It includes two members of the Chamber of Commerce and three council-appointed city residents.
Several council members, including Mayor Joan Feehan, said the Chamber of Commerce, rather than the council, should supervise the committee. The council decided not to discuss specific programs or a budget until the leadership question was straightened out.
A budget draft prepared by the committee shows that $94,525 would be needed for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins in October. The money would be generated by a business license tax to be collected starting July 1.
The mission statement is a pledge of partnership between the city, the Chamber of Commerce and the business community.
