La Mirada : Seniors Housing Planned
The La Mirada City Council has selected a Long Beach company to sponsor a housing project for low- and moderate-income senior citizens and handicapped people. With the city’s support, the firm, Retirement Housing Foundation, is expected to apply by June 1 for federal money to build the 75-unit complex near the corner of Valley View Avenue and Adoree Street.
The funding application for the $3-million development will go to the federal Housing and Urban Development Department. The agency is expected to decide by Oct. 1 whether to finance the project, said Tom Robinson, the city’s community development director. The city, he said, made a similar request for HUD funding last year but was turned down.
The housing complex, as proposed, would have studio and one-bedroom units ranging in size from about 400 to 540 square feet.
