Council Rejects Plan to Outlaw ‘Sideshows’

The City Council has rejected Mayor Jerry Brown’s plan to make attending “sideshows” -- late-night car rallies known for high-speed stunts -- a criminal offense, after hearing complaints that the proposal would violate constitutional rights.
About a dozen angry residents denounced the proposal Wednesday, saying it would erode civil liberties.
