Gunman Fires Into Party; 8 Wounded
A gunman opened fire into a crowded high school graduation party outside a Long Beach home early Saturday morning, wounding eight youths and adults, authorities said.
The shooting about midnight occurred in the 500 block of Temple Avenue, a residential neighborhood a few blocks from the beach, said Sgt. David Cannan of the Long Beach Police Department.
The victims, six males and two females, ranged in age from 14 to 20. None of their injuries were life-threatening, Cannan said.
“They are all very, very, lucky” they weren’t killed, he said. The shooter “fired a lot of rounds -- over 10 -- into the crowd.”
Witnesses told police that people in the assailant’s four-door sedan yelled at the partygoers before the shooting.
The incident was believed to be gang-related, Cannan said.
