Detective Recognizes, Arrests Suspect at Lunch
From Times Staff Reports
Police Det. Victor Hafkenscheid was having lunch last Thursday when he thought he recognized a man at another table.
He told Det. Douglas Harathat that the man looked like the sketch of a suspect in the attempted kidnappings of two 12-year-old girls on Jan. 6, a half-mile from the restaurant at Atlantic Avenue and Willow Street.
The officers arrested Edward Svitak, 44, of Corona.
The district attorney’s office is expected to decide in the next few days whether to charge him.
