College Teachers
* I have been a part-time college instructor of English at community colleges for over 17 years. I have the same academic qualifications and fulfill the same teaching responsibilities as full-time instructors, yet I receive no benefits, no job security and get paid a pittance, comparably.
There are thousands of good part-time teachers throughout the state who enjoy helping students, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to live with the inequality and unfairness. There is an $80-million supplemental budget item being considered in the California Legislature that could make a big difference in pay equity as well as respect. I urge The Times and all readers to encourage the passage of this. It’s only fair.
