Man, 28, Dies After His Car Flips Over
A 28-year-old man died Saturday after losing control of his convertible and overturning in a west Ventura neighborhood, police said.
Fidencio Munoz died at Ventura County Medical Center shortly after the 4:30 p.m. crash at Ventura Avenue and Prospect Street, officers said.
Munoz lived in the neighborhood where the crash occurred, and his wife ran to the scene after hearing about it from other residents.
The car flipped after traveling onto the sidewalk and then on top of a guy wire, secured at an angle between the top of a power pole and a fastener at street level.
The vehicle landed on its top, pinning Munoz between the car and the road, Ventura Police Sgt. Randy Janes said.
It does not appear that Munoz was wearing a seat belt or that alcohol was a factor in the accident, Janes said.
The crash, which snapped the guy wire, cut power to a nearby hardware store and forced the closure of Prospect Street for about two hours.
