Without endorsing or opposing U.S. involvement in Yugoslavia, the City Council decided Tuesday to place yellow ribbons along Katella Avenue, between Beach Boulevard and Western Avenue. The ribbons symbolize the community’s hope for the safe return of U.S. military personnel involved in the war. “It had nothing to do with the war,” said Mayor Harry Dotson. “We just want to make sure our troops come home safely.” Council member David John Shawver, who was not present at the meeting, had earlier suggested that the city consider a resolution in support of U.S. military efforts.
