Clothing Retailers Indicted on Tax Charges
SIMI VALLEY — A couple who once operated a chain of women’s retail clothing stores in Ventura County were indicted Wednesday on federal charges of underreporting their income on their 1992 and 1993 tax returns, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Myung Sook Kim, 45, and her husband, Dong Chol Kim, 58, were charged with two counts of filing false income tax returns.
At that time, the couple lived in Simi Valley and ran stores under the names Kim’s Fashion and The Expression.
The indictment alleges that the couple filed federal tax returns that understated gross receipts and their income. If convicted, each could face a maximum penalty of six years in federal prison and a fine of up to $200,000.
The case was investigated by the Oxnard office of the Internal Revenue Service’s criminal investigation division.
