Volunteers Needed to Care for Rescued Animals
* The California Wildlife Center is seeking people to take care of injured and orphaned animals. The center in Calabasas needs volunteers to feed animals, clean cages and help with rescues. Two days of training are provided and participants must be at least 18. The wildlife center is also holding a fund-raising dinner at Dolcetto Italian Cuisine restaurant in Agoura Hills on April 19 at 7 p.m. Dinner is $40 a person. * The Volunteer Center Assistance League of Southern California is seeking people to help during a walk-a-thon April 18 at Lake Balboa Park, 6200 Balboa Blvd. in Encino. The event will raise funds for the Valley Women’s Center Inc. in Tarzana, which offers counseling to families. The women’s center also needs volunteers to do office work. * Burbank’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program needs volunteers of all ages for several programs, including guides for Glendale Police Department station tours from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will learn about Glendale police history and law enforcement careers. Applicants must pass a background screening, including a Department of Motor Vehicles and criminal history check, and an interview.
Volunteers are also needed for two positions at the Valley Community Clinic in North Hollywood. The clinic, at 5648 Vineland Ave., needs a nutrition assistant to maintain client logs, pull medical charts and other office duties; hours are flexible. A family planning program volunteer is also needed at the front desk to greet clients, fill out paperwork and explain medical tests and results; hours are Wednesdays, 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. For more information, call Dee Call at (818) 238-5370.
* The Volunteer Center Assistance League of Southern California needs people to assemble food packages for needy families. Participants meet every Saturday between 9 a.m. and noon at the Children’s Hunger Fund warehouse, 12846 Pierce St. in Pacoima. The center is also seeking people to serve on the board of directors of El Centro de Amistad, a nonprofit agency that helps low-income Valley families.
