Design Award Goes to Firm’s Surgery Device
A device used for cataract surgery that was designed by a Newbury Park company is one of 40 winners of the 1999 Medical Design Excellence Awards sponsored by Canon Communications LLC.
The annual competition recognizes product innovation, design and engineering excellence, end-user benefit and cost effectiveness in manufacturing and health care delivery.
Designworks USA designed the winning Sovereign Medical System, a compact surgical device for cataract removal and synthetic lens replacement. The product is manufactured by Allergan in Irvine.
A panel of eight jurors evaluated 175 entries and chose the winners.
The awards ceremony is set for May 26 at New York City’s Grand Hyatt during Canon’s 17th annual Medical Design & Manufacturing East Conference and Exposition.
