12th District and Incumbents

With the election April 13, we must be reminded that we voted for term limits. City Councilman Hal Bernson will have been in office for 20 years. Because of the way term limits was written, he is eligible for another term. Whether you vote for Marilyn Stout, David Guzman or Charles Rubel, it is imperative that you don’t vote for Bernson.

An example of his cavalier attitude is the 23 condominium-townhouses being constructed at the corner of Nordhoff Street and Hayvenhurst Avenue. Seven hundred and seventy-four constituents filed petitions with the Planning Commission against this project but in favor of single-family dwellings. The Planning and Use Management Committee, with Chairman Bernson, Councilman Mike Hernandez and Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski, approved the project. At the City Council’s televised hearing, Bernson said only 2 people objected, whereas there are 774 signatures on file in addition to the hundreds of phone calls to him. Further, not one of the petitioners was ever contacted by Bernson’s Citizens Advisory Council regarding this project.

The Porter Ranch business complex at Corbin Avenue and Rinaldi Street is another project mandated by Bernson to the chagrin of all the surrounding property owners.

This is why we need to elect new members to the City Council who will listen to their constituents and not to the developers.

Vote for Stout, Guzman or Rubel and not for the incumbent, Bernson.
