U.S. History Isn’t Without Its Flaws
* Re “History Teacher Still Subject of Diverse Reaction,” March 21:
Some people disapprove of a Newport Beach history teacher, Angela Newman, who calls attention to the fact that President Lincoln, a national icon, had flaws and that our country, great as it is, has had times that are much less than great and noble.
Our children should be exposed to a balanced view of our history--events that are shameful as well as those that make them proud.
A one-sided presentation of our historic past is not education.
