MWD Appointees
* Your Nov. 2 article on the Metropolitan Water District board contains an unfair reference to Mayor Richard Riordan’s appointments as “pure political patronage.” The mayor appointed me with the approval of the City Council to the MWD board and no one can say that was “to reward campaign supporters,” since I didn’t arrive in L.A. until after the mayor was elected and reelected.
I know that the mayor’s appointees have a serious interest in reforming the MWD. The MWD has a new board president and will soon have a new general manager. The mayor’s appointees are working to implement needed reforms with the support of the entire city government.
