Man Jailed in Assault on Woman
A 31-year-old transient was arrested for choking and threatening to kill a 59-year-old woman Thursday, police said.
Joey Richard Bryce allegedly threatened to kill the woman, reportedly a friend, with a steak knife while in her home in the 18500 block of Hawthorn Street.
He then began choking her with both hands, but stopped for a moment so he could close the garage door to prevent neighbors from hearing anything, according to Sgt. Jim Perry. He then slapped her and started to choke her again and threw her to the floor, police said.
But the woman, whose name was not released, managed to escape to a neighbor’s house to call police.
Officers arrested Bryce on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and booked him into Orange County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The woman had red marks on her neck but did not need medical attention, police said.
