Arson Hurts 3 at School
Police are searching for whoever set fires Thursday inside a Huntington Beach High School girls restroom while classes were in session. The incident left three maintenance workers injured and caused about $2,000 in damage.
The school employees, Brad Ennis, 42; Chris Metro, 30; both of Huntington Beach, and Frank Vasquez, 58, of Westminster, were taken to Pacifica Hospital, treated for smoke inhalation and released Thursday, police said.
Huntington Beach Det. Robert Christie said someone went to a lot of effort to start the fires about 11 a.m. inside the bathroom, near a classroom on the second story of the school, at 1905 Main St.
“Whoever lit this fire was really determined,” he said. “You’ve got the school at total capacity at that time of the day,” he said. “Had the building caught fire, the potential for bodily injury would have been pretty high.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Police Department at (714) 536-5948.
