Man Arrested in Immigrant Jobs Scam
Michael Yanfeng Shen, accused by state authorities of falsely promising jobs to fellow Chinese immigrants if they paid to take his courses on real estate appraising, turned himself in to authorities on Friday.
The state office of real estate appraisers had moved to arrest Shen, 60, and his wife, Nancy Hsiuchien Shen, 51, on Thursday. His wife was taken into custody, but Shen caught wind of her arrest and initially refused to surrender.
After talks with his lawyer, authorities arranged for Shen to surrender Friday and immediately post bail.
Shen’s lawyer, Peter Berlin, said Friday that the allegations are “completely false and unsubstantiated.”
