Four Men Capture Would-Be Carjacker
A would-be carjacker was arrested after two brothers pulled him from a woman’s car, another man tied his arms and legs and a fourth called police, a detective said Friday.
Ivanna Salinas, 18, of El Monte had just finished fueling her car at 4:15 p.m. Friday at a gas station on Baldwin Avenue when a man grabbed her keys, Det. John Fentress said. Salinas screamed as the man tried to put the keys in the ignition.
Brothers Chris Wong, 35, and Kawing Wong, 37, ran up and pulled the man from the car. As he struggled with them, an unidentified man came to their aid and helped tie the man’s legs and arms, Fentress said. Meanwhile, Hector Holguin called 911.
Gustavo Lopez Montalvo, 31, was booked on suspicion of felony attempted carjacking. He remains in custody.
Fentress said Salinas wanted to thank the four men who helped her. She considers all of them heroes, the detective said.
