Car Fire Stalls Traffic on Ventura Freeway
VENTURA — Two lanes of the southbound Ventura Freeway near Telephone Road were blocked for nearly 45 minutes Wednesday night after a Volkswagen Beetle caught fire, authorities said.
The unidentified driver was not injured, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
Traffic nearly came to a standstill about 7:15 p.m. as drivers slowed to maneuver around the scene near the Santa Paula Freeway interchange.
“We got plenty of calls about it, so it must have burned pretty good,” a Ventura Fire Department spokesman said.
The right two lanes on the freeway were shut down about 7:30 p.m. as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. The lanes reopened about 8:10 p.m., the CHP said.
