Traffic Death Rate
Re “State’s Traffic Deaths Fall to 38-Year Low,” June 2: There is another factor that is contributing to the decrease in traffic fatalities, just as it is contributing to the drop in the crime rate. That factor is strictly demographic, and that is that the baby boomers are aging.
People in my generation are getting older, slowing down and decreasing in number due to death. While in our prime years during the ‘70s and ‘80s, baby boomers were a significant population source of criminal and other antisocial activity. I expect that drops in these statistical levels will continue for the next decade and then level off as the population reaches equilibrium.
