IRVINE
The City Council on Tuesday opened another front in its fight against the proposed international airport at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station and proposed expansion of the James A. Musick Branch Jail by voting to initiate an annexation application for the base.
The move apprises the Local Agency Formation Commission of the city’s desire to annex the 4,400-acre site, which is within Irvine’s sphere of influence. If Irvine’s annexation is approved, the shuttered base would become a planned mixed-use community. That option, known as the Millennium Plan, can be found online at https://www.millenniumplan.com.
