SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO
To prevent further deterioration, the city is having a Geotechnical evaluation performed on the vacant slope areas above the Loma Vista subdivision, at Via Lanobia and Via Cerro Rebal streets, city officials said last week.
“Surface failures” occurred in the area during last winter’s rains, officials said. Soil samples are being taken by geologists hired by the city and the Loma Vista Homeowners Assn. and will be used to determine the stability of the soil. A report expected from the geologists in a few weeks will provide a plan to secure the slope.
In the meantime, temporary protection, minor regrading and sandbagging to divert storm water have been completed in preparation for this winter’s storms.
