Independence Festival Scheduled Sept. 12-14
The ninth Fiestas Patrias de Independencia street fair will be held in downtown Santa Ana Sept. 12-14, organizers announced Tuesday.
Sponsored by the Downtown Santa Ana Business Assn. and numerous corporate sponsors, this year’s fiesta will feature top acts in contemporary Spanish music, organizers said.
Association spokesman Bob Leavitt said it will cost about $100,000 to put on the event, but all expenses, including police security, will be paid by the business group and sponsors. Organizers expect about 250,000 to attend.
“We’re a pretty diverse group--Latino, Korean, and Anglo merchants. We want people to experience our diversity. This is a family-oriented event, and we’ve never had any serious problems,” Leavitt said.
In addition to the musical entertainment, food and specialty booths will line 4th Street, from Broadway to French Street. The fiesta is scheduled to precede Mexican Independence Day, Sept. 16.
