Effort Underway to Support City of Hope
Those interested in fighting cancer, diabetes, AIDS and other debilitating diseases are invited to help start a local City of Hope fund-raising chapter Wednesday at the Westlake Village Inn.
Founder Lori Bonfiglio of Thousand Oaks said 15 members are needed to begin a chapter.
Bonfiglio said the group will organize fund-raisers through “runs, walks, casino nights or whatever” to support the City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute in Duarte, near Pasadena.
The center is dedicated to clinical cancer research, especially breast cancer and bone marrow transplants, and other types of diseases, said Debbie Swanson, a spokeswoman for the City of Hope.
There are 320 fund-raising chapters around the country, she said.
The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Palm Terrace room at the Westlake Village Inn at 31943 Agoura Road. A mixer will follow the meeting. Members will pay annual dues of about $50.
