Council May Increase Fee $10 to Adopt Shelter Pets
It could soon cost $10 more to adopt a dog or cat at the San Clemente Animal Shelter.
The City Council tonight will hold a public hearing to consider whether to increase pet adoption rates to $35 for cats and $40 for dogs.
The added revenue would go toward the cost of care for animals while they are in the shelter, which is about 15 days on average, said Kumi Johnson, the city’s central services manager.
“It’s for direct care,” Johnson said. “All of the revenue from adoptions goes to the animals.”
The last increase was granted in 1992, when dog adoption rates were raised $5.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers, 100 Avenida Presidio. Information: (714) 361-8200.
