70-Year-Old Woman Dies in Accident in Her Driveway
ORANGE — A 70-year-old Orange woman died in a freak accident Saturday when a car lurched forward in her driveway and pinned her against her home, police said.
Hidiliza Bagtas, was pronounced dead at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana shortly after the 9:42 p.m. accident, said Lt. John Higley of the Orange Police Department.
Bagtas had been a passenger in the car driven by her 63-year-old niece, Josefina Flores, when they pulled into their driveway at 2116 N. Harwood St., a residence they shared, Higley said.
Shortly after Bagtas got out of the car and walked in front of the vehicle, it lurched forward, pinning her between the car and the residence, Higley said.
“The reason the car lurched forward remains unclear,” Higley said, adding that Flores was in the car when the accident occurred.
Higley said the incident remains under investigation.
