Woman Found Dead Near Rincon
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the possible homicide of a woman found dead on a desolate road near the Rincon on Saturday evening.
The identity of the woman, who officials said is in her mid-20s, is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin.
The body was discovered by a passing motorist near Mussel Shoals at the end of a dead-end road, which runs parallel to the Ventura Freeway, shortly before 6 p.m.
As the body of the woman, who appeared to be white with reddish brown hair, lay face up in the dirt, homicide detectives searched the scene for evidence. She was wearing a T-shirt, blue jeans and sneakers.
“We have not ruled out homicide, murder or even accidental death,” said Sheriff’s Lt. Larry Robertson. “There’s even the possibility of a single gunshot wound.”
The woman appeared to have suffered a severe blow to the head, Robertson said. Police had not determined how long the body had been there.
