BUENA PARK : Possible Anti-Gay Attack Is Probed

Authorities are investigating a possible gay-bashing attack Sunday on two men near a Buena Park bar that has a gay clientele.

Police said a group of three to five men shouted anti-gay epithets in Spanish, slashed the victims with broken bottles and beat them before stealing the car in which the two were talking while parked near Ozz, a bar and restaurant on Manchester Boulevard.

Police were seeking the attackers Wednesday. The victims’ car--stripped and badly damaged--was found several blocks away on Monday, said Sgt. Robert F. Chaney.

Tomas Canas, 32, of Fullerton suffered a fractured skull in the attack and was released Wednesday night from St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton. Alex Saucedo, 26, of Long Beach was treated at the same hospital for severe cuts and bruises to the face and head.

The two were sitting in Canas’ car in a parking lot across the street from the bar when the men approached and pulled them from the car, Chaney said. Canas said in a brief interview from his hospital room that attackers yelled epithets and cursed as they beat him and Saucedo.
