Witnesses Sought in Shooting Death
SANTA ANA — Police are looking for witnesses in the shooting death of a 25-year-old Costa Mesa man who was hit in the chest and later found slumped over the steering wheel of his car.
Police responding to calls about a traffic accident in the 1600 block of West Washington Avenue found Benton Colby Dunscombe, who apparently drove his car into a pole after being shot about 8 p.m. Thursday, said Lt. Bob Chavez. He was later pronounced dead, officials said.
“At this point, we are not sure what happened,” Chavez said, adding that it is not clear whether Dunscombe was an intended target or struck by a stray bullet.
