Man Is Shot to Death Outside Reseda Home
RESEDA — A 25-year-old Reseda man was shot and killed outside his house early Saturday after the victim’s father tried to ward off his son’s attacker by throwing a glass of milk at the gunman, police said.
Carlos Chavez died about 8:30 a.m. at Northridge Hospital Medical Center from a bullet wound in the head, police said. His father, Jose Chavez, was uninjured.
The incident began about 1:55 a.m. when Carlos Chavez left his home in the 7500 block of Jellico Street to walk to a nearby convenience store, his father told police.
About 10 minutes later, Jose Chavez was in the kitchen of the house when he heard his son running into the back yard from an adjoining alley, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Robert Taylor said.
When his father went outside to see what was going on, Carlos yelled to him “Get him, Dad,” the elder Chavez told police.
Jose Chavez told police that when he saw a man standing near a car parked in the alley, he threw a glass of milk at him, Taylor said.
As the victim’s father ran toward his son, the gunman fired several shots, striking Carlos once in the head.
The gunman then entered the passenger’s side of a light-colored compact car and sped off, Jose Chavez told police.
Police have no suspects or motive for the killing, Taylor said.
