OJAI : District OKs Increase in Sewer Service Rates

The Ojai Valley Sanitary District voted Tuesday to hike sewer service rates by as much as 30% to cover the cost of renovating the area’s dilapidated sewer system.

Starting next month, 11,000 homeowners who now pay about $220 a year with their property taxes will be billed an estimated $45 to $72, said Eric Oltman, sanitary district general manager.

The new revenue will help pay for upgrading the area’s 66-year-old sewer system, Oltman said. The renovations are scheduled to begin next month.

When the increase kicks in next month, Ojai Valley residents will pay more for their sewer services than any city in Ventura County, according to a survey of city officials.

Rates in other cities range from $112 a year in Port Hueneme to $252 a year in Ventura.
