Don’t Punish for Prayer
Does the Simi Valley Unified School District have nothing better to do than consult lawyers about students and teachers meeting during the lunch period to pray (“4 Teachers Told to Stop Leading Prayers,” Nov. 19)? Wouldn’t there be a better use of time and money?
Are these teachers forcing the participating students to pray? Are they hurting anyone? Have the prayer meetings been loud or obnoxious, causing students and/or faculty of different beliefs to suffer in some way?
Shame on the school district. It should spend its time worrying about educating the young people of Simi Valley. There are so many worthy battles to be waged. Fight the influx of drugs and gangs in our fair city, not well-meaning teachers and students using their free time to pray to our maker.
