Centel-Sprint Merger Plan Draws Opposition: A group led by New York financier Mario Gabelli confirmed that it will oppose the $2.85-billion merger of Centel and Sprint Corp. The group, which holds a 6.27% stake in Centel, made the confirmation in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Two other shareholders with combined holdings of about 6% have also said that they will vote against Sprint’s offer.
