OXNARD : Windshields of 2 Police Cars Smashed
Vandals smashed the windshields of two Oxnard police cars outside a meeting of La Colonia Neighborhood Council, police said Thursday.
The incident occurred between 7 and 9 p.m. Wednesday while Assistant Police Chief James Latimer and Senior Officer Rafael Nieves were attending the meeting inside the Juanita Elementary School auditorium.
It follows an incident early Sunday in which vandals broke the windshields of four police cruisers while officers were breaking up a party near First Street and McKinley Avenue.
“There are some people in the Colonia who would just as soon not have us there,” said police spokesman David Keith. “But this kind of thing makes us even more determined.”
Latimer and Nieves had been invited to talk to La Colonia residents about a new police substation established in September to combat area crime.
