Congressman-elect Howard P. (Buck) McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) Wednesday appointed Bob Cochran, who was most recently executive assistant to Rep. Carlos J. Moorhead (R-Glendale), as his chief of staff and Armando Azarloza as his 25th-District director.

“Bob’s vast knowledge of Congress will be a tremendous asset to me,” McKeon said of Cochran, who served on Moorhead’s staff for nine years.

Azarloza, who directed McKeon’s election campaign, had served as a public affairs executive for a national advertising firm and, before that, on the staffs of former First Lady Nancy Reagan and the 1988 presidential campaign of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Jack Kemp.

McKeon said he will press Congress to oppose the proposed Elsmere Canyon landfill, which both Los Angeles County and the city of Los Angeles want to operate jointly in the Angeles National Forest.

He added that he will call for 25% of America’s peace dividend to be spent on new roads, bridges and highways and that he wants to create thousands of jobs by pushing for the granting of a foreign trade zone in Palmdale and for locating a Pentagon finance office in the Antelope Valley.
