El Monte : Ban on New Karaoke Clubs
Following the example of several other San Gabriel cities, the City Council last week adopted a 45-day moratorium on permits for new karaoke clubs.
Although there is only one karaoke establishment in the city, other bars and restaurants have shown interest in adding karaoke equipment.
Police Chief Wayne Clayton asked for the moratorium, citing gang-related violence, including a homicide, an attempted murder and several assaults at karaoke clubs in other cities.
