Cadillac to Stop Making Convertibles: For the first time since 1986, General Motors Corp.’s Cadillac division will not have a convertible to sell, the auto maker said. The decision to halt production of the two-seat Allante convertible next July was based on slow sales in the luxury car segment, a Cadillac spokesman said. This year, Cadillac has sold only 1,878 of the front-wheel-drive cars, down 24.8% from last year. Cadillac stopped making the Eldorado convertible in 1976 and did not produce another open-air car until the Allante came onto the market 10 years later.
