UNDERSTANDING THE RIOTS--SIX MONTHS LATER : Money and Power/Making It in the Inner City : About This Series
When a jury voted not guilty verdicts in the trials of the police officers accused of beating Rodney G. King, Los Angeles exploded in a paroxysm of anger and violence worse than any to grip a U.S. city in a century. To explore how Los Angeles has changed in the six months since the civil unrest, The Times is publishing these sections this week:
* Monday: The Times explored the complex dynamics of life in a multicultural community, seeking answers to Rodney King’s searching question, “Can we all get along?”
* Today: The Times examines important developments in the Los Angeles Police Department in the wake of the riots and Chief Willie L. Williams’ rise to leadership.
