NO CHEAP SEATS
I am one of three people I know who have had their Honda Preludes stolen twice (“Prelude to a Claim,” by Tim Bedore, Palm Latitudes, Oct. 11). I, too, have been told that the main object of the thefts is the seats.
My insurance company offered to repair my car instead of totaling it if I’d accept used seats as replacements. The adjuster said it was possible that the replacements might be stolen seats, and that I might be buying back my old seats. The price the company was willing to pay for replacements: $2,200 per seat.
Maybe the insurance firms are to blame for maintaining such a lucrative market for these items and ensuring that the Prelude remains the most frequently stolen car in Southern California.
