Harassment Complaints Serious Issue
With regard to “Harassment Suit Hits College” (Oct. 31), the Saddleback Community College District takes exception to the (plaintiffs’) statement that employees’ complaints of sexual harassment were ignored. The two employees named in the article did not file a sexual harassment complaint with the SCCD.
The SCCD takes complaints of this nature very seriously. Last year, the SCCD added the position of director of affirmative action programs with duties that include ensuring matters of this nature are thoroughly and expeditiously reviewed and resolved.
The district encourages employees with a complaint to discuss and file a formal complaint with the director of affirmative action programs within district complaint procedures. Sexual harassment complaints are never ignored, but thoroughly reviewed and appropriate action taken if necessary.
