Five homeless men arrested while trying to sell the car of bludgeoned ABC newsman Gary Shepard will be charged with attempted murder, police said Thursday.

Police believe the transients operated a residential robbery and burglary ring that targeted homes in upscale Westside areas, said Sgt. Gary Gallinot.

Tore Lerveck, 19, of Norway; John Girou, 18, of Oklahoma; Charles Hicks, 25, of Mississippi; and Larry Morris, 30, and Andrew Winder, 22, both of New Jersey, were arrested Wednesday near the Santa Monica Pier.
