Sunny Weekend Skies May Give Way to Rain
The afterglow of a dying Santa Ana will bring warm, sunny weather to San Diego today and Saturday, but a low pressure system will bring clouds and a chance of rain Sunday, the National Weather Service said.
The Santa Ana winds that created 20% humidity and temperatures in the upper 70s and 80s this week will leave gentle breezes in its wake, said Wilbur Shigehara, senior meteorologist for the National Weather Service. A cooling trend Sunday will deepen as the week progresses, he said.
The high Thursday at Lindbergh Field was 75, Shigehara said. The normal temperature for this time of year is 71, he said.
The first frost of the year occurred Wednesday morning in Campo, where the mercury dipped to 32, Shigehara said. Chilly nighttime temperatures this weekend may bring frost to the mountains.
“It is so chilly, this should put our deciduous crops into dormancy,” Shigehara said. “That is good, our crops need that. We can’t be warm all the time.”
Beach highs today and Saturday will range from 68 to 72 and from 65 to 70 Sunday. The ocean water is 67 and the surf is at 2 to 4 feet.
Coastal highs through Saturday will be between 73 and 78, dropping between 70 and 75 Sunday. Lows will range from 50 to 60 tonight and Saturday night.
Highs in inland areas will range from 78 to 83 today and Saturday. Overnight lows will be in the low 40s and may reach near freezing in some of the colder areas like Bonsall and Escondido.
Mountain highs will range from 55 to 65 today and Saturday, and between 50 and 60 Sunday. Nights will be range from 30 to 40.
Desert highs through Saturday will range from 78 to 85, dropping about 5 degrees Sunday. Nights will be between 45 and 55.
