President-Elect Bill Clinton

I think the real reason Clinton will be our next President is that he was able to touch the hearts of so many Americans, a phenomenon that the political analysts do not seem to grasp. His message of hope, responsibility and unity inspired us. His appreciation of his opponents’ contributions and his equal sharing of the moment of triumph with Al Gore Tuesday night was a real class act.

I have a proposal for his staying in touch with all of us ordinary Americans. President-elect Clinton, if you will get yourself an 800 number, flash it across the TV screen and record our calls on a computer program via a live operator, you will truly be able to listen to our feelings, needs and ideas. Then you could go on TV and let us all know what issues we raised and what is being done about them. Such a plan would help us to feel that you will remain accessible to all of us.
