Pasadena : Sale of School Site Protested
A residents association last week protested the possible sale of a former school property to Pasadena City College, demanding that the cash-strapped Pasadena Unified School District seek other buyers.
“It seems to us in times of financial hardship, the district should seek the highest bid,” said Tim Price, president of Daisy Homeowners Assn.
School Board President Elbie Hickambottom cited a law that requires the district to offer the former continuation high school, at 3081 Foothill Blvd., to a public entity before offering to any bidder.
The state has provided the college $4 million to buy the site as a skill center. A district appraisal set the property’s value at $5 million.
Another hearing on the sale is scheduled for Nov. 10.
