EXPOSITION PARK : Nestle Sweetens Reading Program
Nestle USA recently awarded Reading Is Fundamental, or RIF, of Southern California $20,000 to buy about 10,000 books for Los Angeles area children.
The nonprofit organization coordinates a national network of parents, teachers, librarians and volunteers to interest children in books and help develop reading skills.
RIF of Southern California, based in the Museum of Science and Industry, serves about 15,000 children at more than 60 schools, shelters and social service facilities, said Ruth Graves, national RIF president. Each child in the program receives at least three books, she said.
