Navarro Comment
Recently, mayoral candidate Peter Navarro stated that he intends to attract new business to San Diego so our city won’t become what he calls “a Jack in the Box economy.” What is Navarro saying? That he doesn’t want companies like Foodmaker, operator of the 1,105-restaurant Jack in the Box chain, headquartered here?
Perhaps Navarro should do a little homework. He would discover that Foodmaker, which opened its first restaurant in San Diego in 1950, posted 1991 revenue of $1.1 billion. It gives jobs to more than 2,000 San Diegans and provides millions to local tax revenues. It frequently uses local purveyors, service providers and consultants, and is a major contributor to local charities.
Navarro’s degrading comments about one of San Diego’s oldest and largest companies will do nothing to strengthen our economy and attract new business to our city. Instead, they will further alienate him from business and foster an anti-business sentiment in San Diego.
