Big Win for Bush in County Goes Against Reason
Let me give Hugh Hewitt seven real reasons why Bush won’t win big in Orange County. I don’t need anywhere near the space he took.
1. Orange County’s economy stinks, and Bush doesn’t have a clue what to do about it.
2. Our taxes are higher than ever. Bush lied--and his apology aside, we don’t believe him any more.
3. Crime in this county and our country is growing faster than ever, and Bush, although he talks tough, that seems to be about all he does.
4. The Democratic Party has moved to the center, while the Republicans have been captured by the religious right.
5. Most of us in this county believe in a woman’s right to choose. The Republican platform has just plain frightened us. Why wouldn’t Bush listen to his wife, Barbara, instead of zealots like Assembly candidate Jo Ellen Allen? This is scary stuff.
6. Bush has become the national expert at blaming everyone but himself for the gridlock in Washington.
7. Let’s face it, Bush and Quayle are tired. They’ve run out or ideas, imagination and gas. Clinton and Gore have good, new ideas and the youth and energy to make them happen. It really is time for a change.
Finally, Hewitt spent too much time in the Astrodome. The dust from the Astrodome has clouded his glasses. Otherwise, he would be able to see the hundreds of people working throughout the county to defeat Bush and Quayle.
You just may not recognize them because so many of them are Republicans and former Perot volunteers.
