The suspect, Ronald Marain, 54, died at the scene.
The two deputies and the Porterville Municipal Court marshal were fired upon at 5:30 p.m. as they tried to serve a warrant on Marain--for driving without a valid license--at a house in Strathmore, said Sheriff’s Lt. Ray Lovelady.

Other people were inside the house in the rural community about 130 miles northwest of Los Angeles. There were no other injuries reported, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Daryl Mackey.
