BACK PATS: State Sen. Marian Bergeson (R-Newport Beach) says she hated missing the Republican National Convention, but state budget woes came first. Orange County officials, however, are glad she stayed in Sacramento. They’ve drafted a formal thank-you note to Bergeson. . . . Though counties are taking a huge hit in the state budget, she’s credited with reducing their burden. “She did a stellar job for Orange County,” says county Budget Director Ron Rubino.
