200 Disneyland Summer Jobs Will Go to L.A. Youths
ANAHEIM — Disneyland said Tuesday that it plans to hire about 200 youths from South Los Angeles to work as ride operators, cooks, gift sellers and in other temporary summer jobs.
The program, which begins Saturday, is being co-sponsored by the First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Los Angeles. The teen-agers were selected from 450 applicants for the jobs.
“The 200 lives affected by this program will, in turn, affect 1,000 others within our community and beyond,” said the Rev. Cecil Murray of First A.M.E.
Disneyland hires about 2,500 young people each summer in addition to its 10,000 to 12,000 regular employees.
